President's Message - Budyong April 15, 2008

Some would call it a blow-out, I was about to call it a celebration but the old “SIFU”, (grand master), PP Botoy, reminded me that it should be a ‘Thanksgiving’ meeting and then it crossed my mind that it was exactly what I wrote for the Invocation!

Eleven Club awards, two individual citations for District Chairs, One golf Champion trophy, three other awards on ‘utang’ by the District is a humongous achievement! As quoted by AG Nolly, “if there was an overall winner it would be us, RC Kalibo!” So, tonight, we gather to give thanks to the good Lord for he has answered our prayers as we prayed every meeting…to give us the strength and courage to SHARE, GIVE and LIVE in the ideals of Rotary. Here are your rewards so it is an opportune time to congratulate each other for without one the other would have been in vain. As the saying goes, “a commander of the highest calibre is useless without his soldiers!” Just to mention a few examples, Best Vocational Service Award – ‘youth congress’, PP Nonoy and your team this is your award. Best Community Project – ‘feeding program’, Rtn. Arnold and your team this is your award. Most Outstanding Avenue of Community Service Award – PP Art and your team this is your award! Best in Public Image/PR Award – PP Botoy and IP Megs and Rtn Cedric, this is your award. We must not forget Sec. Vic and his spouse Rtn. Bing for they have not slept together for TWO weeks whilst compiling the award bids. Thank you both for that great, great sacrifice! My apologies if you are not mentioned as there are too many to mention!

My fellow Rotarians and ever supportive Spouses this is not the end of the road but it is just the start of a long journey in community service though we are on the final leg of RY 2007-2008. So keep going with your untiring support and participation for more successful Rotary years to come. We did not make the 100% RFSM Club at the close of DISCON 2008 but we can still achieve this before the RY ends. So Rotarians, please give your contributions ASAP!

A week before the DISCON, RC Kalibo had presented a total of 16 Rotary medals for academic excellence to graduating Cum Laude students and 20 certificates for Leadership Award to the graduating Rotaract and Interact Club Officers.

I thank my spouse Becky for insisting on hosting this Thanksgiving Meeting and Spouse Rencee for giving way to your hosting as today is your birthday and you would have loved to celebrate your special day with everyone. Congratulations to one and all, thank you all once again and have a wonderful evening!
