FEEDING PROGRAM GRADUATION

HELP OUR YOUNG CHILDREN

(Feed and Treat Needy Children Make a Difference in their Lives)

DESCRIPTION: a total feeding, medical, dental and educational program for young
Children ages 3-6 years old in depressed are
as of Aklan.

BENEFICIARIES: 30 children of third and second degree malnourished, ages 3-6, and are indigent.


TERM: 3 months in a place then move to another. Four cycles in a year.

PURPOSE: 1. To provide supplemental feeding to these children once daily, Monday to Saturday with nutritious food, milk and vitamins as supervised by the nutritionist, midwives, and prepared by the mothers involved.
2. To organize the mothers of these children and train them to prepare cheap nutritious food for their family and educate them on other aspects such as responsible parenthood, family planning, home management etc.
3. To have an initial and weekly medical and dental check up of thesechildren weight, TB check by PPD, treatment of parasitism etc.

4. To educate these children on hygiene etc and to have reading and storytelling and catechism classes as scheduled.

VENUE: At the day care centre with prior permit
from the barangay. To be supervised by area midwives,, barangay nutrition scholars and barangay health workers.

TIME: Daily 2:00 to 4:00 P.M

MECHANICS:
i. Inform the Barangay and organizations involved.
ii. BHW/M/NS will go to target area to weigh and select thirty (30) most indigent and with 3rd/2nd degree malnourished children.
iii. Meet mothers to seek permit and cooperation and to give them orienta
tion.
iv. Sign agreement with mothers, Barangay officials and organization involved.
v. Give ticket and monitoring cards to chosen child’s mother.
vi. Mothers must bring their children to the day care centre (mon-sat). Failure to do
so for two consecutive sessions without valid reason, the beneficiary will be replaced by another.
vii. Short classes for mothers conducted daily by various organizations.
viii. Short educational/catechetical classes for th
e children as scheduled by various organizations.
ix. Weekly weighing and recording to be done by Barangay personnel.
x. Other organizations to visit and help once a week..

xi. Daily feeding of menu plus fruit or milk and vitamins.
xii. Monthly general assessment for the first and second month. After the 2nd month and improvements are noted, there will be a month break for the organizing feeding committee to plan and prepare for the next cycle/site/barrio

BUDGET: P200.00 PER DAY ON SUPPLEMENTAL FEEDING
P200.00 x 90 DAYS = P18,000.00


Note: NO SALARY OR ALLOWANCE IS PAID. ALL COOKING AND FEEDING ARE DONE BY MOTHERS.

THE PROJECT IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AKLAN MEDICAL SOCIETY headed by its president for two years now, Dr. Cynthia Dela Cruz, AND WITH COOPERATION FROM PARTNERS IN SERVICE LIKE: INTERACT CLUBS, ROTARACT CLUBS AND RCC OF NEW WASHINGTON WHO DOES THE STORY TELLING FOR KIDS AND HELP MOTHERS FEED THE KIDS, TOO.

4TH CYCLE STARTED LAST DECEMBER 2007 AT OUR ADOPTED DEPRESSED BARANGAY, FATIMA, NEW WASHINGTON, AKLAN.

CONGRATULATIONS ROTARY CLUB OF KALIBO AND AKLAN MEDICAL SOCIETY FOR ANOTHER MILESTONE IN THE LIVES OF THE CHILDREN AND THE COMMUNITY, TOO. GRADUATION RITES WAS HELD AT BRGY. FATIMA, NEW WASHINGTON LAST MARCH 12, 2008.

KODUS TO RTN. ARNOLD JAYME (MD) FOR HIS TIME AND EFFORT OF DOING THE ONE-MAN MISSION ON CONSULTATION FOR CHILDREN. HE IS ALSO THE CHAIRMAN OF THE FEEDING PROGRAM BEING A MEDICAL DOCTOR HIMSELF (PEDIA-PULMO).
